Message from Atlantic Mackerel Advisory Committee (DFO)

Fisheries and Oceans Canada will be pausing the Atlantic mackerel bait fishery in all Mackerel Fishing Areas as of 12:00 PM (Atlantic Daylight Time) on July 8, 2026. This notice to stop fishing is for conservation purposes as landings have surpassed the first 466.67 tonne portion of the total allowable catch (TAC).

NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS FROM DFO

 MONCTON (NB) and QUÉBEC (QC) July 3, 2026 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announces the implementation of the management Approach per Sector (MAS) for the distribution of the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for the herring fall fishery (fall spawners component) of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence (sGSL). The MAS aligns with the updated scientific model used for the stock assessment and distributes the TAC with the biomass estimates of each sector.

NOTICE TO FISH HARVESTERS FROM DFO

 MONCTON (NB) and QUÉBEC (QC) July 3, 2026 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announces the details of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence (sGSL) herring summer fishery for the 2026 season for Herring Fishing Areas (HFAs) 16A to 16G. A Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 750 t, taken from the herring fall fishery TAC, is available for the summer fishery. 

2026-2027 CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN - Atlantic Halibut (4RST)

Eastern New Brunswick fixed gear fleet < 19.81 meters 

 Approved on July 3, 2026 

This conservation harvesting plan (CHP) applies to all Eastern New Brunswick fixed gear licence holders fishing Atlantic halibut in Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Divisions 4RST with vessels less than 19.81 meters in overall length from May 15, 2026 to May 14, 2027

It is to be noted that this CHP is subject to change following ministerial decisions or annual review. Directed fishing for any other groundfish species will require a separate CHP.
